Notes on LPB Day 1

The Portuguese League started with a big game, as the National Champions SL Benfica faced CAB Madeira, the second strongest team in the league. Benfica won it by two points (66-68) while the Madeira team faced an early out by injury, as Jose Costa didn't finished the first quarter.

Ekjersey Viana was Day 1 MVP, scoring 16 points and grabbing 22 rebounds in the Fisica v Lusitania match. That wasn't enough, yet, to surpass the Azorean team third quarter, when tey outscored Fisica by 19-4, with Daniel Monteiro and Augusto Sobrinho leading the team with 19 and 18 points scored.

Hard start to Algés, with Ovarense making it big in the last quarter, after Rui Quintino and Danilson Vieira fouled out. In a team that is lacking experience in their rotation, losing their two Small Forwards was just too much. Mario Goncalves, with 16 points and 12 rebounds, was the Ovarense main contributor.

Big day to Arnette Hallman in the Academica away win over Galitos. The Portuguese born son of an NBA Draft player (his father was drafted by the Celtics in 1980) made a clear sentence about his value, in a team that has no foreign players in their roster. 17 points and 16 rebounds is a mark Hallman will try to repeat over the season.
